Dartford fire crews tackle heath fire

Firefighters tackled several fires on Dartford Heath this afternoon.

About 250sq metres of land covered in bracken and gorse went up in smoke from about 2.30pm.

Two crews from Dartford Fire and Rescue Service spent 45 minutes stopping the flames from spreading across the heath.

Ian Hampson, crew manager, said: "When we got there it was well alight and it was jumping from patch to patch where it had been set alight ."
