Dartford manager Tony Burman made his third summer signing this week after persuading Billy Burgess to join the ambitious Ryman League, Premier Division club.

Burgess joins recent signings Elliot Bradbrook and Allan Tait at Princes Park for next season’s promotion push after dropping down from Blue Square South side Braintree.

The 25-year-old, who lives in Welling, can play in central defence or at right-back and that versatility was an extra bonus for the Darts boss.

Burman said: "He’s played for Braintree for five years, and three in the Conference South where he was captain.

"He’s dropped down a league for the right reasons as he felt he needed a new challenge and wanted to help us go up.

"He has experience and can also play in a couple of positions, which is important, and we feel he’s a very good player."

With a trio of players now added to a side that finished just short of challenging for the play-offs last season, Burman was delighted with the way his squad is developing.

He said: "We managed to sign the majority of the squad from last year and we didn’t need too many changes.

"All of the players who have come in are at a good age, with Elliot 24 and Allan 27.

"We’ve got experience as well and I’m delighted to have added all
three to the squad."

More signings, however, haven’t been ruled out before the start of pre-season.

"There may be one more coming in before then," said Burman. "We’ve met a couple of players and when they are ready they will probably come back to me. I’m in no rush though, we’ve targeted some players and hopefully we’ll get them."
