Both tunnels at the Dartford Crossing are open as normal this morning after severe disruption yesterday.

One of the tunnels had to be closed for more than 15 hours after four lorries were involved in a crash yesterday lunchtime. At one stage, the tolls were lifted as queues reached 10 miles.

Charges have now been reinstated after the Highways Agency confirmed resurfacing work because of a diesel spillage was completed overnight.

Traffic was reported to be flowing well this morning after the tunnel reopened at about 5.30am.

It comes after long jams last night, leading to tolls at the crossing being temporarily lifted in one direction from about 5pm to 10pm.

One of the Dartford tunnels had been shut following the crash just before 1pm involving four lorries.

Traffic was being diverted by the other tunnel during recovery work and until the diesel spill was cleared.

Meanwhile, traffic was rerouting through Dartford - leading to long delays in the town centre, with some roads at a standstill.

The Highways Agency said a 70 metre section of the carriageway had to be resurfaced overnight.

Delays had been stretching back on the M25 anti-clockwise to J3 for the M20/A20 at Swanley.
