Six fire engines tackle warehouse fire in Dartford

Thirty firefighters tackled a large warehouse blaze in Dartford this morning.

Crews in six fire engines have been on site at Powder Mill Lane since just after midnight.

Firefighters fought the blaze on the first floor of the two-storey warehouse, which is used as commercial premises using jets and a hose reel.

A height vehicle was also at the scene and was used to get to the roof.

The fire is believed to have started on the first floor of the warehouse and crews have been battling to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring buildings.

After speaking to the owner of the ground floor business, crews were able to salvage important items such as computer equipment, to help the company return to normal business as quickly as possible.

Firefighters tackled the blaze from outside the building until a gas leak inside had been isolated. Once this was made safe, they were able to ventilate the unit, gain access and fight the fire inside.

Four fire engines remained at the scene after the fire was brought under control, and a specialist technical rescue team helped with the salvage operation.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but will be investigated.

Crews were expected to remain on the scene for several hours.
