Chocolate eggs, fancy hats and Roald Dahl characters galore as Dartford celebrates Easter Weekend

Despite the overcast weather, more than 1,500 people turned out for the annual Easter egg hunt in Central Park in Dartford.

Held on Easter Saturday and organised by the Dartford Round Table, youngsters collected tokens from around the park which they could then exchange for a chocolate prize.

The Easter bunny hopped around and was kept busy by the excited children – and adults – who wanted to take selfies with him on their mobiles.

Other attractions included stalls, games and rides and Wisdom Estates, a local family-run estate agent, ran a property ladder game with real steps to climb. All profits were donated to the event.

Pete Holmes, 32, chairman of Dartford Round Table, said: “It’s great to see so many people turning out considering the weather.

“This is only the second year for the egg hunt event but it has already proven to be a real hit, making it the best egg hunt in town.

“I would like to thank Jeremy Kite and Dartford Borough Council for their support through their Clubbing Together Community Grant Scheme.”

All proceeds will be invested back into the community, with a contribution towards Round Table’s national charity, Round Table Children’s Wish, which gives terminally-ill children dream days out.

Elsewhere, children who were out shopping with their parents were able to enjoy a Roald Dahl themed egg hunt and more at The Orchards Shopping Centre.

Youngsters had their faces painted and hunted for eggs in order to win prizes. The idea was the brainchild of artist Stephen Oliver, who has a gallery in the centre.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Dartford, Cllr Ian Armitt and some visitors were lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka while in the malls.
