A family fled to safety after a fire broke out in the kitchen of their Dartford home.

The parents and a teenager were out of their bungalow in Chichester Road when firefighters arrived just after midnight today.

A teenage son was helped out and was taken to Darent Valley Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The blaze broke out after a pan was left on the stove.

Crew manager Vince Lewis said: "There was no smoke alarm in the property, This could well have been another story."
