Thousands raised in memory of angler Jack Morrisson

Thousands of pounds has been raised in memory of a 16-year-old angler.

Former Longfield Academy pupil Jack Morrisson, from Hartley, had been night fishing at Sutton-at-Hone lakes when he got into difficulty.

He was reported missing at 1.46pm on Friday, December 16, and his body was found the following morning after an extensive search.

Jack was a member of the Dartford and District Angling and Preservation Society for eight years and treasurer Steve Butler set up a Just Giving page to help Jack’s family with funeral costs.

The page raised £18,000, more than £10,000 over its target of £7,000.

Mr Butler said: "In total we raised £18,000. Some of that is going towards the costs of the funeral and some will be used for future events that we will invite Jack's family to.

"The money will be used for events that will bear Jack's name.

"Originally we set out to raise £7,000. Most of the money was donated from within the angling community and they are very generous.

"At the end of the day Jack was only 16 but he was respected member of the angling community and people are always happy to put their hands in the pockets in these types of situations."

Jack’s funeral was held on Wednesday last week at St Mary’s Church in Fawkham and Medway Crematorium, Blue Bell Hill. Mourners then gathered to remember Jack at The Rising Sun in Fawkham Green Road, Fawkham.

His devastated family paid tribute to him on Facebook after his death was announced. They posted: “Jack, you were like a beautiful angel that we were sent.

“We have been so lucky to have you and you were amazing. Although our hearts are broken that your life was short we want to celebrate your life that we were so blessed to be a part of.

“Your love of football was answered by playing for Volenti Football Academy and your weekends were spent on your one true love, fishing.

“You have brought so much joy to us and we feel so blessed to have had you.

“Although your life was short it was full; you had achieved so much and were on a path to success.”

An inquest is due to be held on February 15 in Maidstone. There are no suspicious circumstances.
