His 53-year-old son Mark said: "We are so worried about my dad. If anyone has seen him or thinks they may have seen him please contact police as soon as possible. We are missing him terribly and any information could prove invaluable.

"My dad is well known in the area and the whole family is desperate for him to come home safe."

Mr Smart's two grandchildren Harry and Holly said: "Please can you help us find our granddad. We love him very much and miss him everyday."

Harry, 21, added: "My birthday is Sunday. I would love to have Pops with me so we can celebrate the day together. Please contact the police if you have any information."

Mr Smart, a keen golfer, is generally fit and well for his age.

He is white, 5ft 7ins and of medium build. He usually wears a dark waist length jacket, blue jeans and dark shoes. He walks with a stick and has no money or Oyster Card.

Officers have been conducting extensive searches in the area and have conducted house to house enquiries.
