The Hatton Garden heist will be making another killing this Easter weekend - but this time at the cinema rather than in safety deposit boxes.

The Hatton Garden Job, a film about the infamous robbery, will be released at cinemas across the country today.

Larry Lamb, of EastEnders and Gavin & Stacey fame, will play Brian Reader, the Dartford-based ringleader of the gang.

Reader owned a house on Dartford Road worth an estimated £1 million, where he lived.

When police raided the property in May 2015, they found items relating to the heist such as a diamond magazine, a book on the gem underworld, and a diamond tester and gauge.

It has since been reported that Reader’s house may be seized by the state under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).

The film will showcase a wide choice of home-grown talent, with Matthew Goode, from Downton Abbey, True Blood’s Stephen Moyer and Clive Russell, also known as ‘Blackfish’ Tully from Game of Thrones.

The heist made headlines around the world over the 2015 Easter weekend and was reported as the biggest burglary in British history.

It saw the robbers drill through the 2m thick wall and make off with an estimated £14m in jewellery from safety deposit boxes inside the vault.

What was even more shocking, however, was the ages of the the robbers - they boasted an average age of 62, the youngest being 49.

Reader has been recently sentenced to six years and three months in prison for conspiracy to commit burglary, but his trial had to be delayed many times due to ill health.

His elderly accomplices have recieved sentences between six and seven years for the same crime, with only one being cleared of involvement in the job.

The film has recieved positive reviews from critics, calling it “entertaining” and “informative”, with the break-in scenes being described as “gripping”.

Two more films have been planned on the heist, with one named as The Hatton Garden Heist.

The Hatton Garden Heist, the second of the three films on the robbery, is due for release in 2017, and will be directed by Gabe Turner.

The final film of the three has not yet been publically named or been given a release date.

It is reported that James Marsh, the director of box office hit The Theory of Everything, will be directing the film.

The Hatton Garden Job will be released nationwide on Friday, April 14 with an age certificate of 15.
