Lorry fire on A2 coastbound near Black Prince Interchange

A dustcart has caught alight on a main road heading into the county.

The vehicle was spotted on the A2 Rochester Way in Dartford, near the Black Prince Interchange, at around 2pm this afternoon.

Huge amounts of smoke could be seen by drivers coming from the lorry.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: "Most of the dustcart containing mattresses was damaged by the blaze. There were no reports of any injuries.

"The brigade’s 999 control officers took 19 calls to the fire."

The blaze was under control by 2.34pm. and two engines from Bexley and Plumstead fire stations attended.

Two lanes were blocked but they have now been re-opened and and traffic is beginning to ease.

There was also congestion before the Dawson Interchange.
