No water in Dartford, Bexley, Crayford, Wilmington, Stone

Hundreds of people have woken up to find problems with their water supply this morning after "a major setback" in pipe repair work.

Homes across the Dartford area - including Crayford, Stone and Wilmington - have been left with either very low water pressure or no supply at all and Crayford's Tower Retail Park and High Street have been submerged.

Thames Water has been working to fix a burst 12-inch-wide pipe in Crayford Road, which runs inside a bridge above the railway line, since Tuesday afternoon.

Repairs were ongoing on Saturday night, but a second burst on a joining pipe in the early hours of Sunday morning has caused further disruption and flooding.

Crayford Road is currently closed at the junction of Station Road and Roman Way, although Thames Water insist it will reopen as soon as possible and that water pressure is beginning to return to normal.

Thames Water senior operations manager Danny Leamon said: “This is an extremely difficult repair, due to the location and depth of the pipe, and we are very frustrated to have suffered this major setback.

“The second burst and flooding is now under control and water pressure should be returning to normal for customers.

"We’re really sorry for this added disruption our work is causing, and are doing everything possible to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”

Bottled water is available in the Crayford Road area for anyone still without water or low pressure. Road diversions are in place and buses are available from Crayford Sainsbury's in place of trains - there are none currently running from the station.

The list of postcodes originally affected were DA1, DA2, DA4, DA5, DA6, DA8, DA9, DA14, DA15, DA16, and SE9.

However, Thames Water says supplies have now been restored to all but postcodes DA1, DA2, DA6 and DA16.
