Gridlock on M25 in Kent after rush-hour accident causes congestion between Clacket Lane Services and Swanley Interchange

Commuters suffered delays of up to one-and-a-half hours in another day of severe disruption on the M25 in Kent.

Heavy congestion was caused after an accident on the clockwise carriageway at soon after 7am.

It happened between J5 for the M26 and the Clacket Lane services - with traffic stretching back to J3 at Swanley.

All lanes reopened at about 7.45am, but traffic remained solid from midway between J3 and J4.

It also caused queuing traffic on the M26 westbound between J2A for the A20 and J5 of the M25.

The Highways Agency said normal traffic conditions were expected from around 9.30am.

There were heavy delays on the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 in the same area yesterday morning after a car overturned.
