A man has been arrested on suspicion of conveying a bomb threat after a busy shopping centre was evacuated in Dartford.

Police were called to the building in the centre of Dartford at 2.13pm today, to reports of a suspicious package.

A woman, who didn't want to be named, saw police evacuating the building and sniffer dogs sent inside.

She said: "There's a big police presence here. They've evacuated the shopping centre.

"Apparently they've sent sniffer dogs in there."

A spokesman for Kent Police, Lucy Hurdle, said: "Officers attended the scene and the shopping centre was evacuated as a precaution, however it has since reopened.

"This incident is being treated as a hoax and a man in Medway has been arrested on suspicion of conveying a bomb threat."
