Devinder Kainth sentenced to jail after punching German 'paedophile' to death

The partner of a former Longfield student who punched to death an alleged German paedophile after he took photographs of their children has been sentenced to six months' jail by a Spanish court.

Devinder Kainth, 39, was handed the prison term after admitting the manslaughter of PR man Sandro Rottman at a restaurant in the upmarket resort of Sotogrande on the Costa del Sol earlier this year.

But the father-of-three's sentence is likely to be suspended as, according to Mail Online, first-time offenders in Spain are not usually forced to serve time behind bars for periods less than two years.

Kainth, said in the same report to be a millionaire British estate agent, was having an evening meal with his partner Gemma Hawkins, then aged 31, and their children when he spotted pictures of the youngsters on his victim's iPad.

Ms Hawkins attended Axton Chase secondary school and it is believed she, Kainth and their children moved to the resort last year.

Mr Rottman, 43, was said to have been at the centre of a police investigation after child sex abuse images were found on his computer.

He died in hospital after being attacked in the Spinnaker Restaurant on February 7.

But it has been reported that Judge Raquel Gomez Sancho ruled heavy-drinking Mr Rottman's alcohol-related health problems had contributed to his death.

Kainth and his family were said to be leaving the restaurant when he noticed the images and confronted Mr Rottman before punching him several times to the head.

The judge said the blows would not normally have caused a person's death but Mr Rottman had severe liver cirrhosis which meant he died minutes later.

It was also accepted by the court that Kainth would have been in an emotional state when he hit Mr Rottman.

The owner of the restaurant told MailOnline at the time that Kainth "went crazy" and hit Mr Rottman at least 20 times to the face and head.

It is believed Mr Rottman once helped to organise model Katie Price's trip to the resort to promote her polo clothing range in August 2009 and was pictured chaperoning her and her ex, Alex Reid.
