Firefighters from Dartford along with paramedics and police were sent to the crash scene and officers closed the road while they dealt with the incident.

Two of the vehicles involved were a flat-bed truck and a car.

Firefighters helped paramedics get the drivers out of the vehicles, with crews having to remove a door to get one casualty out quicker.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 6.58am initially to a two vehicle crash.

"On arrival three vehicles were involved in the incident, one of which was a flat-bed lorry.

"Two casualties were assessed at the scene by SECAmb and fire crews removed a door from one of the vehicles, to assist in releasing the casualties."

Ambulance crews treated two patients for neck pain, before taking them to Princess Royal University Hospital.

The crash led to long delays for motorists on the QE2 Bridge back to West Thurrock until around 9.30am.

There were also tailbacks on the anticlockwise carriageway at the Dartford tunnel, with congestion beyond junction 2 of the A2 for the Darenth Interchange at one stage.
