Child grabbed by hair by unknown woman in attack near toilets at Winter Garden in Bluewater

Police are investigating an assault after a child was grabbed by the hair by an unknown woman in Bluewater.

The incident took place near some toilets in the Winter Garden section of the shopping mall at 1.30pm on Saturday.

The woman also grabbed at the child’s shoulder, but the youngster wasn't hurt.

The suspect described as between 40 and 50, six foot tall, with tanned skin, a large build and had long black hair in a pony tail. She was wearing a dark-coloured flowing skirt and a dark coloured cardigan.

A police spokeswoman said:“Officers have carried out a number of enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage, and are continuing with their investigations to establish the circumstances around the incident.”

But police have denied Facebook postings claiming the incident was an attempted abduction. Police say they're treating it as an assault.

A Bluewater spokesman said: "Bluewater can confirm that the police were involved regarding an alleged incident that occurred on Saturday afternoon.

"The safety of our guests is our number one priority and we are assisting the police in their enquiries including sharing CCTV footage.

"Unfortunately we are unable to comment further in this police investigation."
