Burnham Road in Dartford re-opens after reports of gunshots

'Gunshots' shattered windows in two separate flats in Dartford on Monday night.

The suspected shooting in Burnham Road saw the street closed for much of today as police gathered evidence about the attack, which offices say they are treating seriously.

The road was shut before 5am this morning, but there were no reports of any injuries and the road is now open.

Neighbours reported hearing between two and four gunshots between 9pm and 9.30pm on Monday night.

One woman said the sound of the shots suggested it was a pistol that had been fired and that she heard a car driving away from the property shortly after.

Police taped off a number of properties at the end of the road, near the juction with Sandpit Road and the roundabout.

Detective Sergeant Richard Le Jeune said this afternoon: "We are treating it seriously and would urge anyone with information to contact our appeal line. Reports of this nature are incredibly rare and we believe this to be an isolated incident."

A police spokesman added earlier: "Police were called to an address in Burnham Road, Dartford at 9.30pm last night following reports a gunshot had been fired at the property.

"No one has been injured."
