Children at two Dartford schools could be classmates within a year under proposals for a merger.

Kent County Council chiefs are considering the amalgamation of Fleetdown Infant School and Fleetdown Junior School after their respective head teachers, Margaret Moyle and Susan Clement, announced plans to retire in December 2009.

The proposals, which are automatic when the heads of linked junior and infant schools decide to move on, would see the two Lunedale Road schools form one new Community Primary School.
