Firefighters called as skip lorry catches fire in Princes Road, Dartford

Firefighters were called to Princes Road in Dartford this morning after a skip lorry caught fire.

The skip was engulfed in flames at 11.14am, with an eye witness keen to praise the lorry driver for his quick response.

Keith Ingrams, who snapped a picture of the blaze, said: "The quick response from the driver to remove the skip from the lorry saved a bigger fire."

Police and ambulance crews were also called and a man was treated for minor burns, but he did not need to be taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "Crews used a hose reel, a jet and a hydrant to tackle the fire.

"Police were called to close the road. The incident was closed at at 11.49am."

It is not yet known how or why the fire started, but the road was clear and re-opened by 12.36pm.
