Vehicle fire on the A2

Drivers faced delays after a vehicle fire on the A2 this morning.

Smoke could be seen billowing across both carriageways at the scene on the coastbound stretch between Old Bexley Lane and junction 2 of the M25 at Dartford.

The car - a white Hyundai Touscan - caught light just after 7am and the incident affected traffic in both directions.

Emergency services were sent to the scene and the car was taken onto the hard shoulder.

Highways England say traffic management was removed by 7.52am, but recovery crews had to wait for the vehicle to cool down before it was removed around an hour later.

No injuries were reported.

All lanes have been reopened.
