Mick Jagger and Keith Richards been in the same class at Wentworth Primary School in Dartford but had lost touch after Mick passed his 11-plus and won a place at Dartford Grammar School.
Keith attended Dartford Technical High School for Boys, where he was expelled for truancy and ended up at Sidcup Art College.
But on October 17, 1961, the pair met up once again. Keith said in his autobiography that he spotted Mick carrying some Chuck Berry records and they immediately hit it off.
To mark the date, Dartford council is planning to fit a plaque, which council leader Jeremy Kite says will be placed on platform two.
He said: “We have a plan for 2014 to commemorate the spot. Mick was going up to London and Keith had been expelled. They shared a train and what follows is history.
“We won’t just be focusing on Jagger, we’ve got a series of blue plaques around the town and this is just part of Dartford’s history.”
The station first opened in 1849 and had two platforms. The third and fourth were added in 1897 and 1973 respectively.
Compared to The Beatles in Liverpool, Dartford hasn’t embraced it’s musical past to the same degree.
Liverpool boasts a museum, Magical Mystery Tour bus ride, a themed hotel, statues and one of the band’s first clubs, the Cavern.
But is more celebration of the Stones on its way?
Cllr Kite continued: “I never miss a chance to mention Dartford’s history and we’re talking to lots of people about Paramount park for instance.
“We don’t want it to become an international thing, they can incorporate the history of Dartford, the Stones, and they seem quite receptive to that idea and I’m hopeful that will generate something.”
Rock stars have been recognised in theme parks elsewhere. Disneyland Paris has the Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster dedicated to Aerosmith while Dolly Parton is immortalised at Dollywood in Tennessee.
