A teenager is facing sentence for injuring a police officer by reversing a van into him as he attempted to get away.

The PC’s legs were crushed when the 18-year-old reversed into him in Lullingstone Avenue, Swanley, on June 23.

Ben Irwin, defending, said it happened after police officers were chasing Lee and he drove into a dead end. He hit a wall and then went backwards, crushing the officer’s leg with the door.

Mr Irwin said “something of the aftermath” was caught on a mobile phone.

Lee claimed he acted recklessly, but prosecutor Nina Ellin said officers told of a deliberate reversing.

Miss Ellin said the injured PC was still off work sick.

Adjourning sentence until September 5, Judge Philip Statman said: “These are very serious matters. I must know a lot more about you before determining sentence.

“I am dealing with a lightly convicted 18-year-old who has behaved disgracefully.”

Asked by Lee if his next appearance would be at a “virtual court”, the judge replied: “There will be nothing virtual about it. It will be live so you can see the whites of the judge’s eyes.”
