Traffic piling up at Bluewater

Reports are coming in of traffic congestion around Bluewater.

Two weeks of emergency roadworks were due to begin yesterday(June 6) that would close the A296 access road to Canterbury from the Bean roundabout.

Traffic is crawling from Greenhithe towards Bean.

The work is being carried out by SGN, the mains gas company. The problem for drivers is that they have to go through country roads to Bean, Southfleet, and Northfleet where they then have to do a U turn at a busy roadabout outside Sainsbury's store to join the A2.

In the opposite direction, traffic can travel towards Dartford, but there are further roadworks before the Darent Valley Hospital.

The work is expected to last until June 20.

No one was available to comment from SGN, and both Kent County Council and the Highways Agency were referring enquiries to the other public body.
