EllenorLions Hospice Twilight Walk

Hundreds of people turned out to the chYps Twilight Walk to raise funds for the charity.

Dressed in pink tutus, pyjamas, bunny ears and feather boas, people of all ages turned out in force to Danson Park, Bexleyheath on Friday to support the children’s service of EllenorLions Hospices.

Walkers were joined by celebrity supporter and TV star Cheryl Fergison, who joined in the Zumba warm-up alongside chYps mascot bear Charlie.

The actress was presented with a bouquet of flowers and certificate of thanks by Cameron Edmonds from Gravesend who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The 12-year-old is one of many young patients that chYps cares for.

Among those doing the walk were 15 teachers from Wrotham Road primary school who were walking in memory of teaching assistant Sally Dean, who died of cancer in July at the EllenorLions Hospice on her 52nd birthday.

Head teacher Sarah Green said: “Sally was such an amazing person who was so full of boundless energy. She was very passionate about her job, supporting and caring for the children at school. She will be greatly missed by both pupils and staff.”

The annual Twilight Walk, sponsored by Dartford’s Mazda Motors UK, is in its fifth year and the 2013 event proved to be a great success with over 200 walkers keen to complete as many 1.2 mile laps as they could.

Mazda held a day of fundraising activities including a bake off and marshmallow-eating competition.

Employee Fran Gilliat said: “The Twilight Walk was great fun, the event was well organised and the team did a fantastic job of sharing why chYps is so important to the families they support.

“Being able to support by sponsoring the event meant chYps can spend their funds on care. It is good to know we are able to do that for such a great charity within our local community.”

Walkers’ sponsorship is still coming in and organisers hope to beat last year’s walk total of £14,000.
