The accidents happened on Sunday afternoon during round five of the Red Bull Pro Nationals as well as a family fun weekend.

It promised to feature some of the fastest professional racers from across the UK and all over Europe - as well as the best young riders from seven to 18.

More than 300 riders were expected to compete in a series of 29 races throughout the weekend event.

Younger visitors were also given the opportunity to have a go at riding motocross bikes.

The two injured were professionals.

A statement from promoters e22 Sports said: "Competing in motocross, like all other motorsports, carries a level of risk that all competitors and parents are fully aware of, and for this reason we provide the best level of medical expertise at every event we stage.

"Both riders injured at Canada Heights on Sunday were experienced competitors who received immediate professional medical attention.

"Racing was suspended while the riders were attended to and only resumed once full trackside medical cover was back in place.

"We’ve been in touch with the parents of both riders to offer our support and to wish them a speedy recovery."
