Heavy traffic after lorry overturns on A282 near Dartford Crossing

A couple, who were filmed standing on the other side of the carriageway before running across the busy motorway, dodging traffic, have been heavily criticised on social media.

The accident happened after a car hit a roadside safety barrier on the north-bound side.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said at the time: "Crews have stabilised the vehicle and are using hydraulic rescue equipment to create space for ongoing treatment and removal of the casualty."

"Two passengers in the overturned vehicle and another occupant of the second vehicle involved had been freed before crews arrived."

All four lanes on the M25 anti-clockwise were blocked, but one lane reopened at around 9pm. The road had completely reopened by 11pm.

The accident happened about a mile before the Dartford Tunnel.

A police spokesman said earlier: "A lorry has overturned near J1A, and officers are at the scene with KFRS and Secamb, and all four lanes heading towards the Dartford tunnel are currently closed while work is ongoing to clear it.

"Drivers are advised to avoid the area."
