Vehicle fire on M25 near Dartford Tunnel causes traffic delays

Drivers have been facing long delays after one of the Dartford tunnels was closed following a car fire.

Three fire engines were called at 2.07pm after the vehicle was found to be well alight on the Essex bound carriageway between junction 1a of the M25 and the A282.

The fire is thought to have been caused by an electrical or engine fault and there were no reported injuries.

Traffic cameras showed delays stretching back past J2 (Darenth Interchange) for several hours before the tunnel reopened just after 7.30pm.

Earlier, delays were recorded on the same stretch of motorway following an accident.

Roadworks overnight also meant one of the tunnels was closed until around 10.30am.
