X Factor fame beckons for Kent schoolboy Charlie Jones from Wilmington Grammar School for Boys in Common Lane, Dartford

A schoolboy from Wilmington is being tipped for stardom after becoming one eighth of the latest boy band on The X Factor.

Charlie Jones, 14, was put together with Barclay Beales, Chris Leonard, Casey Johnson, Jake Sims, James Graham, Tom Mann, and Reece Bibby and performed at Louis Walsh's house in Bermuda.

Charlie is a pupil at Wilmington Grammar School for Boys in Common Lane, Dartford, and started his career by uploading videos of him singing and playing the guitar on YouTube.

His video for self-penned 'Belieber For Life' racked up nearly 700,000 hits on the website.

In his initial auditions, Charlie sang One Direction's Little Things and then performed the Spice Girls' Wannabe in the area auditions.

Viewers were asked to come up with a name for the band - currently dubbed 'boyband' - ahead of this weekend's live shows.

The band was put together by X Factor producers after each of them auditioned as solo artists.

At the weekend they sang Justin Timberlake's Mirrors and Simon Cowell was delighted with their performance.

He said: "The sound of your vocals together on the chorus, is like I've never heard before. Honestly, one of the best groups we've ever had on the show."

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini described them as "fresh, fresh, fresh".

Charlie is one of two Kent acts through to the live finals, along with Only The Young, which features members from Margate and Canterbury.
