Garry Cook’s unbeaten century kept Dartford top of the league on Saturday but the skipper refused to take the glory for himself.

Cook scored 116 not out to steer his side to an eight-wicket victory at Hayes, a result that came seven days after their first win of the season at Tenterden.

Newly-promoted Dartford are now on a three-match unbeaten run in Kent League Division 1.

"I’m very pleased," said Cook, whose side chased down 211 to win. "That’s three good weeks in a row.

"It was hard going to start with but I got a few boundaries at the end.

"I’m more happy for the team – I know it’s a cliche but when you’re the captain you’re not thinking about yourself.

“It was nice to get a hundred at the end but I’m more pleased about the team winning. It was a real confidence-booster for us.

“We’ve been involved in some nervy chases over the years but we went about this one the right way – controlled and calm, not flustered.”
