Charlton Athletic manager Karl Robinson on 1-1 draw with Bury

Charlton boss Karl Robinson has demanded more from his squad after being held at home by Bury on Saturday.

The Addicks lost further ground in the League 1 title race after failing to win for a third successive game.

Robinson was left bemoaning the lack of quality from his young guns, as the Charlton boss was without the injured Ben Reeves and Mark Marshall as well as the suspended Ricky Holmes.

“The biggest disappointment for me, is that I don’t think we change the game when we’re making substitutions,” said Robinson.

“We’ve got good players, but they have to come off the bench and make an impact in the final third.

“You could hit me back with no Mark Marshall, no Ben Reeves, no Ricky Holmes – those three would get in every team’s starting 11 in this league.

“The substitutions will have a bigger impact. Once we get them back fit we know we can make changes that can really impact the game.”

Despite the lack of strength in depth in attacking areas available to Robinson, the Charlton boss still felt his side did enough to win the match.

“We’re frustrated,” he said. “It was weird when the final whistle went, it was like a pin could drop in the stadium. I don't know who's more frustrated the fans or us.

“Everyone knows Bury are in a false position. Everyone knows they’ve got top players that will compete against teams in this league.

“Their first goal was a touch of class by one of the best strikers in the league. But other than that, they didn’t really cause us a problem other than the (Craig) Maguire strike.

“Their keeper made some great saves, but that doesn’t help us. We should be sitting here celebrating three points and that’s the frustrating factor of it.

“We were poor in the opening 20 minutes, horrendous. We were way off our levels and the players accepted why I was critical of them during the first half.

“There was an injury which allowed us to get people in. We changed our shape went to 4-3-3 and pushed our two wide players higher, and made Kashi man to man mark Maguire.

“Once we made that switch the players coped with it very well during the game but we’ve got to make sure we’re strong enough to win the game.

“In the second half, we just felt that if we kept doing the same things our chances would come. We knew we would create chances.”
