Dartford FC boss Tony Burman on their FA Trophy exit at Boreham Wood

Dartford boss Tony Burman praised his players after going toe-to-toe with Boreham Wood for a second time on Tuesday night.

The Darts were eventually knocked out of the FA Trophy on penalties after drawing 2-2 with their National League hosts following extra-time in the first round replay.

Skipper Elliot Bradbrook converted the first spot-kick for Darts but Tom Murphy, Lyle Della-Verde and Alfie Pavey all saw their efforts saved and Wood scored all three of their penalties to progress.

Burman said: “You have to give credit to our five players who put their hands up to take a penalty. They were all three good saves from their keeper, they weren’t bad penalties.

"We played a really good side and did ever so well, we kept to the game plan.

"We took the lead twice and conceded the equaliser with two minutes remaining in injury time.

"I thought we had done enough. They had some chances but when they missed one you thought maybe that was it."

The teams were locked at 2-2 following 90 minutes, although Wood’s equaliser came deep into 10 minutes of stoppage time.

“There were a couple of bad injuries so we knew that time was coming,” said Burman.

“It’s just a shame that we played so long and conceded with two minutes left.

“It was the only mistake we made all night. Defensively, we were decent but from open play we didn’t clear the ball.”

Traffic issues meant Darts took more than an hour to go from their ground to the Dartford tunnel entrance and they then lost Lee Noble just before kick-off to an injury in the warm-up.
