Neither excited nor disappointed - that was Tony Burman's verdict after Dartford finished their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 win at VCD on Tuesday night.

Darts won five of their six friendlies against Ryman League opposition and drew the other, scoring 12 goals and conceding just one.

Burman watched brothers Tom and Elliot Bradbrook find the back of the net at Oakwood on a night when Dartford created enough chances to have won more comfortably.

"It was another good test for us," Burman said. "Playing Leatherhead (on Saturday) and VCD, both Ryman Premier sides, their players are a bit stronger than what we’ve played against and I think we came through it OK.

"We started off a little bit sloppy but I thought we got control of the game. We created some chances and haven’t put them in but I’m not concerned about that at the moment.

"There was some good stuff and I’m pleased. We probably should have scored a few more goals but it wasn’t to be.

"I’m pleased with how it’s gone. I’m not over-excited but I’m not disappointed. It’s moved in the right direction but we’re not going to know until the season starts."

Six new signings and three academy graduates have all featured for Dartford over the last three weeks.

Burman said: "We’re still trying to get them to be as one group. Some of them are young players and they want to make a name for themselves, which is good. The potential is very good.

"We’ve got to build a group of players and I think we’re doing it. It will take time, so we’re not getting over-excited.

"We’ve got to be patient and let them grow into the good players that I think they can be."
