Huge winning margins were the main feature of the BHF Brands Hatch Half-Marathon on Sunday, writes Alan Newman.

On a circuit that has seen countless victories determined by split-seconds, Larkfield AC's Sarah-Anne Mooney won the women's race by eight minutes, with James Bennett taking the men's event by 11 minutes.

Bennett (Striders of Croydon) looks set for a big marathon breakthrough after negotiating the tough hills of the former Grand Prix circuit in 1hr09min51sec. His current marathon best is 2:48.29 set in Dublin last year, but he won the Bramley 20 miles in 1:54 two weeks before this victory.

Stuart Penman (Wimbledon Windmilers, 1:21.42) and Anthony Winstanley (M40 Victoria Park, 1:22.43) were the nearest of the 450 athletes in the men's race.

Mooney (W35 Larkfield, 1:32.27) was equally dominant in the women’s race as Leigh Longhurst (1:40.52) and Sarah Young (W45 Kent AC, 1:41.18) chased in vain. Mooney’s best marathon (3:13.37) was the 2011 Amsterdam event.

The British Heart Foundation fundraising event included a supporting 10k race and the winners were unattached runners Andy Yiannouzis (42.29) and Georgina Bennett (47.09).
