Teenage sprint sensation Adam Gemili is yet to decide whether he will target World Championship glory in the 100m or 200m this season.

Gemili, 19, from Dartford, claimed next week’s European under-23 Championships in Tampere, Finland, are his main focus for the year but he does have A-qualifying standards in both the 100m and 200m for the World Championships in Moscow in August.

Despite being tipped to break the 10-second barrier for the 100m this summer, a 200m personal best of 20.30secs at the English under-23 Championships at Bedford on June 16 was the fastest by a Brit for five years and raised questions about which event will bring him most success.

Gemili said: “I’ve always felt I’ve had the potential to do well in the 200m. Obviously last year I was new to the sport and focused on the 100m and a few random 200s. This year I’m going to be doing both and see where it takes me.

“I’m happy that I’ve dropped a 20.30secs already and that was after five rounds of races in two days.

“I’ve got more to show in the 200m this year and I can be more competitive on the world stage. I have still got potential for the 100m this year and a lot of potential for the 200m. I’ll do the 100 and 200 in Finland and see which one I’m quicker in."
