Dartford boss Tony Burman relieved after his side's first win in Vanarama Conference against AFC Telford United

Tony Burman was a relieved man after Dartford recorded their first win of the season on Saturday.

Goals from Luke Daley and Andy Pugh saw the Darts come from a goal down to beat newly-promoted AFC Telford United 2-1 at Princes Park.

Burman and his backroom staff sprang from the home dugout in jubilation as Pugh's winning goal hit the back of the net. That reaction spoke volumes, Burman's side having come through a tough start to the Vanarama Conference campaign with just two points from five games.

"I’m really pleased for everybody involved," Burman said. "It’s taken a long time to get the first win but we’ve managed to do it. We felt it was only a matter of time and I’m pleased that we’ve got back from 1-0 down to win 2-1.

"We’ve won the game and everyone’s gone home happy.

"It’s a little bit of a relief. In all fairness to the supporters, they want to get behind the players, they’re here to support their club. It’s not been great over the last year or so, with what’s happened, but we’re building again.

"The longer you go without that win, it becomes a monkey on your back. We’ve worked hard, we’ve tried to do things in the right way and I think we’ve had a bit of bad fortune in quite a few of the games.

"In most of the games, something’s happened which I felt has been unlucky. But the first win’s there now and we can prepare for next week in good humour."

Dartford's next game is away to Altrincham, another of the promoted clubs, on Saturday.
