Adam Gemili, Dina-Asher Smith, Jack Green and Tom Bosworth from Kent named in GB squad for IAAF World Championships in Beijing

Kent athletes Adam Gemili, Dina-Asher Smith, Jack Green and Tom Bosworth have been named in the GB squad for the IAAF World Championships in Beijing next month.

Dartford star Gemili - the first Brit ever to run sub-10secs for 100m and sub-20 for 200m - will run neither event in China.

The 21-year-old - reigning 200m European Champion and a 200m finalist at the previous World Championships in Moscow 2013 - has not raced since suffering a hamstring injury in the 100m at the Diamond League in Birmingham on June 7.

He has been named solely in the squad for the 4x100m relay which will be held in the iconic Bird's Nest Stadium on Sunday, August 30, though British Athletics have not filled all their slots in the 200m, leading to hopes Gemili may get the chance to prove his fitness ahead of the competition.

Gemili's Blackheath & Bromley AC teammate Dina Asher-Smith, 19, this week became the first British woman to run under 11secs for the 100m in the Diamond League at the Olympic Stadium in London, however will stick to her long-term plan to contest the 200m, rather than the shorter form, in China, with the heats starting on Friday, August 27.

Asher-Smith has also been named in the 4x100m relay squad to race on Sunday, August 30, but there was no place for in-form training partner Shannon Hylton, a European Junior Champion in the event earlier this month.

Blackheath & Bromley's Lorraine Ugen was one of three athletes chosen for the long jump on Saturday and Sunday, August 23 and 24.

Hythe star Green has been chosen for the 4x400m relay competition, which begins on Thursday, August 27, and concludes the following day, with Kent AC's Conrad Williams also on the six-man list.

Green, 23, who trains in Canterbury, fell in a hurdles race in Switzerland on June 6 and has not been chosen for the individual hurdles event, the heats of which are on Monday, August 24, although he does have the qualifying standard and GB do have another available spot, leading to hopes Green too may be able to prove his fitness to team chiefs in the coming month.

Race walker Bosworth, 25, of Tonbridge AC is the final Kent athlete on the plane to the Far East to take part in the 20km walk on Sunday, August 23, after landing the national title last month.
