All the latest from Crayford Greyhound Track

It certainly was a stunning performance by favourite Stunning Harvey last Saturday as the Julie Luckhurst dog won his Ladbrokes Golden Jacket Trial Stakes race over 714m in 45.96sec.

This may be good enough for the dog to be considered for the Golden Jacket competition, the heats of which are to be run here on February 14.

His inclusion would be welcomed by local racegoers, given the dog is a very popular performer.

As is usual, it will be difficult for a Crayford-trained dog to win the Jacket and at the moment he looks like being one of our best hopes. This was the first time the dog had gone under 46 seconds for the distance.

Painted Craft is another Crayford runner that may make the 36-strong starting list. Her latest run here at the weekend saw her finishing in third place in the other Jacket Trial Stakes.

She ran 45.95 and looked extremely unlucky in being beaten by just a length and a half.

After getting away from the traps in first place, the dog was bumped on the run to the first bend and crowded out at the third turn. Had it not been for those incidents, she would surely have won.

This was only the dog’s seventh race here in a 15-race career and she has not been out of the first three in all of her Crayford races. Trainer Gemma Davidson must consider the dog worthy of representing Crayford alongside Stunning Harvey, should the opportunity arise.

The winner of Painted Craft’s race was Flawless Floyd, trained by Jim Reynolds at Romford, in 45.83. Reynolds will also give due consideration as to the dog’s participation in the Jacket.

To put things into perspective, last year’s winner, Hometown Honey, recorded 45.45 in the final but ran 45.27 in her semi- final 12 months ago.

Those are the sort of times needed to win this year’s £17,500 winner’s prize.

One for your notebook is Mays Musicbox. Trained by Pam Dolby at new track Towcester, Mays won an open race over 540m at the weekend in a fast 33.91.

Any greyhound that can go under the 34-second barrier is worth noting, and I am sure we will see the dog back here for one of the support races on finals night which is Tuesday, February 24.
