All the latest from Crayford Greyhound Track

Followers of this column will be aware that over the last few weeks I have featured Nellie Attack as the greyhound in top form.

Last Saturday she won again at odds of 5-2 in heat two of the Ladbrokes.Com.Summer 714 Open race, so hopefully you took my advice and backed her.

As a result, she will now go to traps on Saturday night in the final of this event and, with a favourable trap draw, she may well score again.

After the two heats last weekend, Crayford will now be well represented in this Saturday’s final, with three runners after Heart Breaker and Fort Hill Storm followed Nellie home in heat two.

The first heat saw three visiting dogs qualify after Flagfield Band, trained by Daniel Brabon at Sittingbourne, won and was chased home by Bru Brae and Woodmancote Bert, trained at Sittingbourne and Hove respectively.

With just two wide runners in the final, I am hoping the trap draw will be kind to Nellie Attack, who would prefer either trap one or two to show her best. While she has run on a handful of times from trap three, only once in her 75-race career has she raced out of trap four, which did not suit her.

What she does have on her side is the clock times, having won her heat in 45.71sec, which, when compared with the other heat winner Flagfield Band’s time of 45.94, shows she can win the final.

Flagfield Band led from trap to line in his heat and had a faster first circuit split time than Nellie, being faster by about two-and-a-half lengths. However, her win time shows just how good Nellie is over the second circuit.

Brue Brae, who finished second to Flagfield Band, looked unlucky when beaten by just three-quarters of a length. As a former Crayford-trained dog he knows his way around here, but his formbook suggests he can not do under 46.00 over our 714m.

Fort Hill Storm, trained by Julie Luckhurst, was favourite in Nellie’s heat but beaten by over five lengths. I have to side with Nellie again and she deserves a big race win.
