All the latest from Crayford Greyhound Track

We have two great finals in prospect on Saturday.

The main feature will be the £500 event for the JB Riney MBE Kent Champion Hurdle over 540m.

This will be supported on the card by the Owners’ Bonus Series final for grade S5 dogs over the same distance.

The semi-finals for both events were run last weekend and were won by Newinn Hawk and Never Doubt Me in the Riney Hurdle and Crickleowl Cosmo and Shalu Beauty in the Owners’ Bonus.

There was a major shock in the hurdle event when hot favourite Con Te Partiro, who went to traps 4/7 odds-on, could only finish in third position – although that
was good enough to go through to this weekend’s final.

Two of the leading fancies, Soviet Military and Lenson Razldazl, both trained by Ricky Holloway, didn’t go to traps. However, he will be represented by Mo Realta Frank, a regular visitor here at Crayford and semi winner Newinn Hawk.

The other finalists will be Navarone and Springwood Ali, who will be Crayford’s sole representative.

Mo Realta Frank may not quite be the force he used to be but the dog can never be discounted out of the reckoning – particularly if running from his favourite trap one here.

As a winner of seven races at Crayford, which is an excellent strike rate for a visiting greyhound, he must have a strong chance.

Newinn Hawk’s win in his semi was the dog’s first at the track but that experience will hold him in good stead.

The clock says Newinn Hawk will win but it would be fitting to see old favourite Mo Realta Frank take the prize and he will be thereabouts.

In the Owners’ Bonus final line-up we have Parkgariff Roman, Sunoak Magic, Greenfield Kay and Seagrove Bolt joining semi winners Crickleowl Cosmo and Shalu Beauty.

This final looks a lottery and should there be trouble, I could make a case for any of the six winning.

However, I was impressed with the debut performance over this distance of Crickleowl Cosmo and I expect the dog to lead early on.

If he does, I don’t see him being caught from that position.
