Charlton Athletic 1 Dagenham & Redbridge 0

Therry Racon

A solitary Therry Racon strike sent Charlton through to the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the expense of Dagenham on Tuesday night.

Racon (pictured) got on the end of Matt Fry's cross and fired the ball home via the left post after 12 minutes at The Valley.

New Addicks striker Paul Benson was denied a debut goal against his former club by some good saves by Daggers keeper Chris Lewington.

Addicks boss Phil Parkinson said: "I thought we coped with Dagenham & Redbridge's style of play very well and restricted their efforts on goal.

"You have to deal with long throws and balls into the channel and wait for those one or two moments of quality in the game, because they don't allow you to play. Our moment came with Therry's goal, and there were a few other moments when we had chances to score."
