Home results frustrate Dartford boss Tony Burman

Dartford manager Tony Burman believes his side’s season is still on target despite their run of poor results at Princes Park in recent weeks.

After opening the campaign with seven straight wins in front of their own fans, the Darts have started to stutter on home turf.

Defeats to Truro and Bromley, the latter in the FA Cup, preceded a painful afternoon against Weston-super-Mare on Saturday as Burman’s side were thwarted by their 10-man visitors in a 1-1 draw.

The Somerset side were accused of ‘spoiling tactics’ and ‘time-wasting’ by some Dartford supporters after the game, frustrations which Burman, the Darts boss, shared up to a point.

"It’s a fair comment, and it’s a credit to us, what clubs are trying to do," he said. "They’re trying to upset everybody in the ground and if that’s the way they want to play, that’s up to them.

"I can’t say it’s what I want to watch but the onus is on us, as the home team, to break that down. It’s very frustrating, but we can’t tell other teams how to play. When they scored, they locked up, but we’ve got to get used to that sort of thing."

By drawing, Dartford missed the chance to close to within four points of Blue Square Bet South leaders Woking, who did not play at the weekend.

Burman’s search for a striker to replace Charlie Sheringham has so far been unsuccessful, with Jacob Erskine set to continue up front for Saturday’s trip to in-form Eastleigh.
