Matt Summerfield wins the British Truck Racing Grand Final at Brands Hatch while Kent's David Smith dominates class B
Four action-packed truck races
thrilled the spectators at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
Matt Summerfield won the Grand
Final while Tonbridge’s Dave Smith dominated the Class B
proceedings.
The first race of the afternoon was
for the Class B machines and Smith finished ahead of Oly Janes in
second and Herne Bay’s John Powell in third.
Next up was the Class A battle and reigning champion David
Jenkins clinched the victory.
He had to overcome a tough
challenge from pole-sitter Matt Summerfield, who lost the lead
after going sideways at Druids.
Summerfield finished the race
behind Jenkins while West Kingsdown’s Steven Powell failed to
finish due to mechanical issues.
The top order was reversed in the
next race as Summerfield took the chequered flag ahead of Jenkins
in a race interrupted by a red flag.
On a huge grid, consisting 17
trucks, Smith (pictured above) finished 10th overall but was
first Class B driver home again.
The Grand Final went to Summerfield
as he finished five and a half seconds ahead of Heinz-Werner Lenz.
Richard Collett, a long way back, finished third while Jenkins’
hopes were ended after a first lap spin.
Smith again led the Class B trucks
home to claim a trio of wins.
