Bristol City 0 Charlton Athletic 2

Michael Morrison

Boss Chris Powell hailed the "complete performance" after Charlton won 2-0 at Bristol City to move seven points clear of the Championship relegation zone on Sunday.

The Addicks – buoyed by their thrilling 5-4 midweek win over Cardiff City – took the lead on 20 minutes when Danny Haynes finished from close range after a Dale Stephens strike from distance hit both posts.

City, heading for a club record seventh straight league defeat, wasted a chance to equalise when the unmarked Sam Baldock failing to trouble keeper Ben Hamer.

Charlton made the hosts pay 11 minutes after half-time as Michael Morrison, pictured, finished from close range.

Powell, whose side are up to 16th in the Championship, said: "It was the complete performance and the first time this season we have been able to say that.

"City were desperate for the points themselves so I am thrilled we competed so well. It is a result and a performance to build on."
