Tipped greyhound Kilmead Charm came up trumps for us as I had
expected winning her A4 grade race at decent odds of 5-1 on last
Thursday afternoon’s card.
As I stated last week, she had failed to score at this level
previously but found things much easier as I had suggested in her
current form.
This victory made it a hat-trick of wins for her. I would be
more tentative about her now winning in grade A3 but hopefully you
will have had the payout from her latest success.
Saturday night’s card featured the four heats of this year’s
running of the John Smith Kent St Leger, with 24 greyhounds
competing over 714 metres.
This is an open race event, which means that greyhounds trained
at other venues can take part. The competitors this year had
runners from Peterborough, Romford, Hove, Wimbledon, Yarmouth,
Sittingbourne, Swindon and Mildenhall.
Heat one went to Lottes Girl, who is a leading contender to win
outright. After a level-looking break by the field, the bunching
which followed at the first bend saw Crayford-trained Short Stroll
knocked over – however, the dog finished the course.
Lottes Girl took up the lead and won by 3½ lengths.
Heat two saw Britania Rachel go off as a short-priced favourite
at 8-11 odds-on. Trained by Claude Gardiner at Hove, she came out
of the traps slowly until powering down the back straight to take
command around the last two bends.
She came home well clear and her overall price will now be
reduced.
The form dogs in heat three qualified in style, with Crinkill
Jewel from Swindon giving hotpot Westmead Amour a tough time as the
pair challenged for the lead until entering the straight when Amour
won by two lengths.
The last heat saw a winner for Mark Wallis, who trains at
Yarmouth. His Carden Twilight prevailed against Risky Rosaleen who
challenged the winner throughout but could never quite get within a
couple of lengths.
I suspect that we have seen in one of these four winners the dog
that will lift the £2,500 winner’s prize on Saturday, October
13.
With 12 dogs now left, the semis will be run this Saturday.
