Dartford skipper Elliot Bradbrook fractures two ribs during FA Cup replay against Ebbsfleet United
Dartford’s inspirational skipper was their FA Cup hero with two match-winning contributions on his 200th appearance for the club – but at a heavy cost.
Elliot Bradbrook’s penalty settled Tuesday’s fourth qualifying round replay against local rivals Ebbsfleet and it was his brave block, after Alan Julian had saved Anthony Cook’s spot-kick, which kept the visitors out at the other end.
Darts held on to win 1-0 but Bradbrook ended the night in hospital with two cracked ribs.
He said: "The penalty got saved, the ball’s come out and I’ve thrown myself in front of it.
"The ball smacked me in one side and Alan Julian’s knee smashed me in the other.
"I’ve got some broken ribs in one side and the indent of a ball in the other.”
On a night when Dartford were hit by injuries and unavailability, Bradbrook’s contribution was typically lion-hearted.
On joining the 200-club, he said: "I love being here. This is my fifth season here and we’ve had some great success.
"I enjoy playing for this football club and to give a little bit back, with 200 performances, it's nice."
