Charlton Athletic 1 Nottingham Forest 1
Charlton boss Chris Powell hopes Tuesday’s draw with high-flying Nottingham Forest can kick-start their season.
The game at The Valley finished 1-1 and ended a run of three straight defeats in the Championship for Powell’s men, the most recent being Saturday’s 3-0 loss at Burnley.
Charlton old boy Andy Reid gave Forest the lead after just three minutes but Marvin Sordell levelled five minutes after the restart. The point sees Charlton 20th in the table.
Powell said: “It was easily our best performance of the season so far. We’ve lost five major players through injury and the 18 I had on duty were the only 18 I had left. For them to show that amount of bravery and create the chances they did was amazing."
The Addicks are at home again on Saturday when they host sixth-placed Blackpool.
“You want it (the Forest performance) to be a building block,” said Powell. “I hope the players and fans went away with a lot of confidence because if you don’t take it from a performance like that, then you never will.”
