All the latest from Crayford Greyhound Track
Saturday night saw the two semi-finals of the Owners Bonus Series Grade A6 races over 380 metres.
The final will be run this Saturday night with £500 going to the winner.
There was a shock result in the first semi when outsider Rhondas Way came home at starting odds of 6/1.
After showing tremendous early pace away from the traps, the Arun Green-trained newcomer held on to win.
This was only the dog’s third race at Crayford and no doubt her starting price here was based on the fact that her previous two outings had form lines which read “missed break” and “slow away.”
She was followed home by Melodys Scholar and Greenfield Kay who also qualified for the final. Their prices were 2/1 favourite and 5/2 respectively.
There were no mistakes from the favourite in the second semi-final when Whistleandflute (9/4) came home some five lengths clear. On paper, she had the necessary early pace to lead this field at trap rise and that proved to be the case. She took full advantage of crowding behind her at the first bend to get a couple of lengths advantage.
Sunside Dame also avoided the trouble and chased the favourite home followed by Saleen Blue Boo from trap six.
This distance does not suit Saleen Blue Boo who is best over the marathon distance of 714m and she was finishing well despite severe crowding around the last two bends.
I am expecting Whistleandflute to start as race favourite in Saturday’s final based on her 24.08. While there is no doubt that she is dangerous if leading early, she is - like all dogs - capable of getting the start wrong.
There can be no denying that she has recently run into a good vein of form and improved her performances.
Saleen Blue Boo would be a real threat if getting around the first two bends in front and would be hard to pick up given her known staying power.
On the lookout for that bit of value, I am going to side with Sunside Dame who will be around the 7/2 to 4/1 mark. She has vast race experience and in the right frame of mind, she is capable of sub-24.00.
