The Dover Festival Prom Concert was a lively and colourful affair at Dover Town Hall on Friday.

A chorus of singers combined with the Proms Orchestra under the batons of Steve Yarrow and Michael Lewis to perform a variety of pieces.

The programme included a selection from Bizet’s Carmen, featuring soloist Marie Kelly-Thomas in the title role, and Steve Yarrow (baritone) for the Toreador’s Song.

Trumpeters Kevin Kay-Bradley and Elaine Williams gave an impressive performance of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets, and other items included the overture from the Barber of Seville by Rossini the Cachucha from Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers and El Grillo (The Cricket) by Josquin des Prez.

The annual performance of All Hail To Thee, Dauntless Dover was flollowed by the Last Night Of The Proms favourites, Jerusalem, Henry Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea Songs, with Marie Kelly-Thomas making a return appearance as Britannia and finally Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No 1, Land of Hope and Glory.

The audience waved their flags, sang at the tops of their voices, and were rewarded with an encore.

A collection was taken for Kent Air Ambulance.
