A successful pop-up art sale in a disused town centre store cheered up Queen Street and the run-up to Christmas a couple of years ago.

Now artist Clive Metcalfe is back again and has just taken a small empty shop in Deal High Street for the weeks up to this year’s festivities.

His paintings of the area are a heartfelt slant on this part of east Kent.

Clive said: “When my wife and I sold our house and retired from our gallery in St George’s Passage in Deal five years ago we had the chance to move to anywhere in Europe.

“In the end we moved to Walmer, as we just love it here.”

Clive has sold hundreds of local paintings and thousands of prints across the years and pictures of Deal are on walls all over the world, from Alaska to China.

From Saturday up to Christmas he will be at 89a High Street, opposite Four Seasons Café.

He added: “I will be able to open from 10am until 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and the rest of the week I will be there when I can.

“Two years ago I took over what is now Domino’s and people responded really well. I had so much good feedback, it was lovely to know how much people had missed me.”

He will have a few originals for sale and many new and classic Clive Metcalfe prints.
