Bench returned to Beauchamp Avenue and Arthur Road junction in Mill Hill, Deal, after a decade

A bench in Mill Hill that was removed more than 10 years ago has finally been replaced.

District councillor Sid Pollitt has been working to reinstate the seating on the corner of Beauchamp Avenue and Arthur Road in Mill Hill, Deal for years.

Following requests from the public, including Jim Davies from Betteshanger Sport and Social Club, he approached Dover District Council.

It agreed to pay the installation costs as well as Deal Town Council, which said it would finance the £750 bench.

Cllr Pollitt said: “It’s taken over a year but I’m very pleased to see it installed and I have seen it being used already.”

Ben Bano, leader of Deal Town Council’s Labour group, said: “We are delighted to have been able to assist with a much needed amenity for people in Mill Hill.

"It is particular for those people with limited mobility who need a rest after their shopping.
“I hope that this is the start of a number of initiatives to benefit the residents of Mill Hill.”
